Following rapid deterioration of the surface of the bridge which carries the M4 over the River Lambourn, we will be implementing an emergency full weekend closure of the M4 westbound carriageway between junctions 13 and 14 to carry out significant repairs.

This closure will take place from 10pm on Friday 27 March through to 6am on Monday 30 March 2020.

A full weekend period is required to allow the materials sufficient time to set. Repairs undertaken in the past using overnight lane closures only have proven unsuccessful as curing time has been too short.  During the closure a signed diversion route will be in place from M4 junction 13, south on the A34 to the A4 Speen junction, west along the A4 to Hungerford, then north on the A338 to join the M4 at junction 14.  Permanent structural repairs to the bridge are currently scheduled for later in 2020/21, but are still in the development stage.

Please be aware that this closure is subject to change due to weather conditions or unforeseen circumstances – please check the yellow signs placed in advance alongside the road for confirmation of the closures dates/timings.

We would like to apologise in advance for any inconvenience or disruption during our work. If you have any questions, or if you’d like you know more about our work please email us at info@highwaysengland.co.uk or call us on 0300 123 5000.
